Susan Dutta and Don Design DC have completed seven US Equestrian Open legs, but they haven't won one yet. That could change this weekend at TerraNova. On freestyle averages, which tend to be decent predictors of final scores, Dutta is the clear favorite. Trouble is, her Grand Prix scores have been eroding while her freestyle holds.&nbsp;
<h2 dir="ltr">Dutta's Diverging Scores&nbsp;</h2>
Dutta's last three freestyles average 72%, which is strong, and she always improves upon whatever she puts down in the Grand Prix. The problem is that her Grand Prix scores have been drifting downward (64.650, 63.780, 62.800 in her last three), while the freestyle numbers have held. That's pushed her GP-to-freestyle lift to +8-9 points recently, roughly double her earlier career rate of +4-6. She's leaning on choreography to cover technical mistakes, and that bandaid is only sustainable for so long. Either the Grand Prix rebounds or the freestyle eventually follows it down.&nbsp;
With four qualifying rides completed, she needs a fourth-place finish or better to drop her lowest score and move up in the standings. But a long-awaited win puts her in the Series top 10.
<h2 dir="ltr">Kohmann's Proven Formula Faces a Debut Question</h2>
Kevin Kohmann is the reason Dutta&rsquo;s win chance deserves a second look. He and Famous are making their Grand Prix Freestyle debut together, (the horse's one freestyle on record was an amateur-level test with a different rider) and Kohmann's Grand Prix average on Famous sits around 66%.&nbsp;
That&rsquo;s not a lot to go on for a prediction, but although the horse is unknown, the rider is absolutely not. Kohmann has completed over 20 Grand Prix Freestyles with his World Cup mount, Duenensee. Together, they&rsquo;ve never scored below their Grand Prix score in the freestyle and consistently add six to eight points. It&rsquo;s unlikely that a brand new partnership would have the same results, but if we apply even two-thirds of that to Kohmann&rsquo;s baseline with Famous the projection lands around 70.3% &mdash; competitive for second and within range of Dutta on a day when her Grand Prix scores are trending the wrong direction. Apply the full amount and he's projecting around 72.3%, which puts him directly on par with the class favorite. That's an optimistic read for a debut freestyle on a horse he's ridden in just six FEI tests. But it's not a baseless one.
He currently sits 20th in the Series on two qualifying scores. Last place this weekend moves him to 16th. A win puts him in the top eight.
<h2 dir="ltr">The Rest of the Field</h2>
Charlotte Burssens is the hardest rider in this field to predict. Her freestyle scores span nearly nine points with Elfentanz &mdash; 63.4 on the low end, 72.4 at the top &mdash; and she has scored below her Grand Prix score in a freestyle twice. Her Grand Prix form has been trending down lately, but her results at higher-level shows tend to suffer while she rebounds at CDI3*, which is what this weekend is. If she's going to land in the upper part of her range, this is the class for it.
Micah Deligdish and Carpe Diem De Massa have one Grand Prix Freestyle together, and it came in nearly four points above their Grand Prix average. One data point is one data point, but a debut freestyle that lifts rather than drags suggests something is working.&nbsp;
Finally, Sahar Daniel Hirosh and Handsome C are a very new partnership having only been showing together since March. The horse carries a personal best of 71.155 under a prior rider, so the talent is there, even if the partnership hasn&rsquo;t yet accessed it yet.&nbsp;

Next Qualifier: Tryon International (May 6)&nbsp;| The Final: Morven Park 4*-L, Virginia (October 8th)
Tamie Smith&nbsp;and&nbsp;Lillet 3 won the Cosequin Lexington CCI4*-S at Kentucky to secure back-to-back wins for Smith following her Ocala victory a week earlier. After dressage she sat third on 29.7. It was cross-country that changed the picture. Lillet 3 added just 1.6 time penalties (the fastest round of the day from 31 starters) to move into the lead heading into show jumping. From there, she held it. Smith and Lillet 3 were the only combination to jump clear within the time. A 31.3 final score and 50 points banked.

Two wins in two weekends saw a huge points boost. She now leads the 2026 Series on 205 points, 20 clear of Caroline Pamukcu on 185. Second place went to&nbsp;Will Coleman&nbsp;and&nbsp;Very Dignified - a mare produced in Ireland with Robbie Kearns and is now who showing real promise for the Coleman Team. Will and 'Dora' who were on the podium at the US Equestrian Open Final last year, are still building their partnership, but she is a horse to keep a close eye on as that relationship develops. Third went to Mia Farley&nbsp;and&nbsp;Invictus, who delivered a strong show jumping clear to complete the podium on 38.3.&nbsp;

<h2>Dressage: Williams wins and Holzer leads after WEC Ocala</h2>
Next Qualifier: TerraNova (April 30)&nbsp;| The Final:&nbsp;Desert Dressage, Thermal CA (November 13)
Jennifer Williams &amp; Joppe K won the CDI4* Grand Prix Freestyle at WEC Ocala with a 75.460%. Ashley Holzer &amp; Hawtins San Floriana finished second at 74.880%, enough to take the lead in the US Equestrian Open of Dressage. Frederic Wandres, not competing, watched the Series lead pass to Holzer: 51 points to his 49.

Holzer not only needed a top-two finish to take the Series lead, but also needed Claire Darnell to finish outside the top 3. She got it. Hawtins still hasn't won a Grand Prix Freestyle, but second place accomplished what mattered this week. Williams, meanwhile, posted another score squarely in her recent range. Her 41 points move her into sixth on the leaderboard.
Darnell and Harrold S finished sixth at 68.425%, well below the form she's shown this season. It didn't affect her Series total &mdash; she'd already completed four qualifiers, so the score didn't count &mdash; but it didn't help, either. She sits third at 47, two points behind Wandres and four behind Holzer, with her window to change that narrowing. Jordan LaPlaca &amp; Gold Play posted a 72.250% in their Grand Prix Freestyle debut together.

<h2>Jumping: Farrington does it again and introduces a new star</h2>
Kent Farrington won the $340,000 Kentucky International CSI5* Grand Prix on Saturday night but the headline wasn't just the result. It was the horse.
Descartes SR is nine years old and this was his first five-star Grand Prix. Farrington set the pace going first in the jump-off, stopping the clock at 39.92 seconds. From there, no one could catch him. McLain Ward&nbsp; &amp; High Star Hero pushed hardest at 40.42, with Shane Sweetnam &amp; James Kann Cruz completing the podium in third at 40.71.
The context around all three results adds texture. Ward was making his return from injury - his first competition in seven weeks after a fall in Week 10 at Wellington, by his own admission "mildly against doctor's orders." Sweetnam and James Kann Cruz, secure another podium to continue to prove themselves as the most consistent five-star combinations in the world.
But the story of the night was Farrington's newly minted five-star Grand Prix horse. Descartes SR was sourced from Mexico on the recommendation of Francisco Pasquel. Nine years old, first five-star, and he won it.&nbsp;

The Open Weekly: Smith and Holzer take the Series leads

The Grand Prix Freestyle at WEC Ocala this week has three legitimate contenders and no obvious favorite. Jennifer Williams and Joppe K, Ashley Holzer and Hawtins San Floriana, and Claire Darnell and Harrold S are separated by less than a percentage point in career average. Their personal bests span barely more than a point.

<h2 dir="ltr">The Top 3</h2>
If you need to hand someone the slight edge, recent form points to Williams. She&rsquo;s logged back-to-back 75.455s with a last-three average just above 75% and a scoring range of just over a point. That's a pair executing consistently near the top of what they've shown. But "slight edge" is more of an educated shrug than a full-blown prediction.&nbsp;
Darnell and Harrold S, meanwhile, are trending sharply upward. Their last three scores &mdash; 73.450, 74.315, 74.365 &mdash; form a tight, rising sequence, with their most recent result the best of the bunch. The issue is simple arithmetic: that 74.365 is essentially Williams's recent floor. For Darnell to win, she'd not only need to put in a personal-best-level performance, but would also need Williams to have an off day. Now granted, Darnell&rsquo;s personal best with this horse is a 77.015%, but that score was posted more than three years ago. Her current form is a more honest read of where the pair sits.&nbsp;
Holzer and Hawtins San Floriana are the wildcard. Their recent scores span from 73.555 to 75.290. That two-point spread means Holzer can beat anyone in this field on the right day, or lose to the other favorites on the wrong one. Hawtins has yet to win a Grand Prix Freestyle, which remains true after eight starts together. A sharp ride this weekend could break that curse. But that's the thing about a wide-open field: a career first is on the table, and so is third place.

<h2 dir="ltr">A Race Within A Race</h2>
The more interesting story this weekend may not even be who wins the class. It's what Holzer and Darnell do to each other on the leaderboard.
Wandres currently leads the Series, but he's not competing this weekend. Whether he's still leading when scores post depends entirely on how Holzer and Darnell finish &mdash; and relative to each other, not just the field. Darnell sits just behind Wandres. Holzer is close behind her. If both place in the top three, Wandres loses the lead, and whoever places higher between the two of them takes it. The only scenario where Wandres holds on requires Darnell to fall outside the top three, and even then, only if Holzer also doesn't finish first or second.
That makes this a race within a race, and given how close these two score, it runs through every movement of both freestyles.

WEC Preview: Wandres Could Lose the Lead And He’s Not Even There

<h2 class="font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]">Eventing: Two FODs from two winners, and a leaderboard that's moving fast</h2>

It was a weekend that produced two winners, leaderboard movement, and a statistical rarity that happened twice in the same weekend across two different venues. The double-header delivered.
<h3 class="font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]">Fair Hill: Pamukcu &amp; HSH Double Sixteen catch the clock</h3>
Caroline Pamukcu &amp; HSH Double Sixteen won the Fair Hill CCI4*-S by doing what almost nobody does at this venue, making the cross-country time. They were only the second combination in Fair Hill history to do so across 143 starters, and they finished on their dressage score (FOD) of 37.7 as a result. It was the second FOD of the 2026 Series, following&nbsp;Lucienne Bellissimo&nbsp;&amp; Dyri at Stable View a fortnight ago.

<h3 class="font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]">Ocala: Smith steers Jump To Day D to a win in just his second 4*</h3>
Down in Florida, Tamie Smith &amp; Jump To Day D won the Ocala CCI4*-S and they did it with an FOD of their own, finishing on their dressage score of 31.5. Just three combinations had ever finished on their dressage score in this event&rsquo;s history, all before the move from the Ocala Jockey Club. Smith becomes the fourth and the first at this venue (Ocala Festival of Eventing). She also placed fifth with Spiro P on his four-star debut.&nbsp;

Caroline Pamukcu extends her lead to 185 points, while Boyd Martin moves into second on 160 after finishing second and third at Fair Hill. Tamie Smith jumps to third on 155 and heads to Kentucky with three horses entered. With neither Caroline nor Boyd competing in the US Equestrian Open qualifier this week, this could be Tamie&rsquo;s chance to get ahead.

If you have noticed how often we have mentioned Greya this year, we're not sorry. When a horse becomes the highest-rated in the world, it's worth talking about. We have been calling her Greya the Great for a number of month but the numbers have now made it official.
After winning both the $1M Rolex US Equestrian Open Grand Prix and the FEI World Cup Final at Fort Worth, the EquiRatings Elo rankings have a new world number one. Greya sits at 787 - two points clear of Point Break and United Touch S, who are both on 785. The best horse in the world right now is Kent Farrington's mare.

The climb has been rapid and recent. Greya moved from 777 to 781 after the Rolex US Equestrian Open Grand Prix in Wellington. The World Cup Final in Fort Worth pushed her from 781 to 787. Two major wins in the space of three weeks, and a global ranking to show for it.
Toulayna sits fourth in the world on 783 after her role in Thursday's speed class at Fort Worth. Farrington now holds two of the four highest-rated horses globally.

It also makes her the highest-rated US horse of all time since EquiRatings began tracking in 2010, clearing the previous US record of 784 held by McLain Ward's HH Azur at her peak in 2018. HH Azur set that bar as a World Cup champion herself, winning on home soil in Omaha in 2017 and claiming multiple WEF five-star Grand Prix including the Week 12 final in 2019. She was the standard for what a US horse could be.&nbsp;Greya has now surpassed it.

Nadine Schwartsman &amp; Royal Flash R won Saturday's CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle at Del Mar with a 73.675%, marking a personal best for both horse and rider. Almost exactly a year ago, their freestyle debut together produced a 67.990%. Nearly six points of separation in twelve months is no small achievement.

The Open Weekly: Weekend wins and Greya is officially the greatest

Five horse-and-rider pairs with averages compressed within four points of each other. No one obviously dominant, and the combination that looks most formidable on paper isn't currently the combination you should trust most. That's the setup heading into this weekend's CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle qualifier at Del Mar.

G&uuml;nter Seidel and Equirelle lead the field on both average (72.863%) and personal best (76.615%), but those numbers are rosying the picture a bit. The PB dates to November 2021. They've yet to ride a freestyle this season, having withdrawn from the March freestyle at Del Mar after scoring a 61.391% in the Grand Prix the day before. Their most recent scoring freestyle &mdash; a 72.815% at Desert Dressage last December &mdash; represents the high end of what this pair has shown recently, and they've dipped into the 66% range on the other end. That's a wide window to make predictions from. A clean, connected ride puts them squarely in podium conversation, but they&rsquo;ve got to make it down the centerline.&nbsp;
Kristina Harrison-Antell and Finley are a different kind of question. Her FEI freestyle average of nearly 72% and PB of 75.470% &mdash; scored at the US Equestrian Open Finals last November &mdash; signal a combination that has been genuinely competitive at this level in recent memory. But the most recent result complicates that narrative: a 68.835% at this same venue in March, fourth of five, and well off her normal range. It may have been a one-off after four months without a freestyle start. It may not. Either way, this weekend starts to answer that. If the mid-72s version of this pair shows up, they are in the conversation for the win.&nbsp;
Interestingly, the newer partnership of Cyndi Jackson and Florisson might be the most predictable of the class. They won the last Del Mar freestyle at 70.915% &mdash; only their second FEI freestyle together as a combination. The first was a 69.465% in February. A modest body of work, but an upward line nonetheless. If they push above 71% this weekend, they are firmly in podium contention and ahead of schedule for a pair still figuring out what they can be.&nbsp;
Nadine Schwartsman and Royal Flash R finished second in March at 70.835% and have been a steady 69&ndash;70% combination over the past year. Royal Flash R has shown the tools for something bigger; whether this is the weekend that materializes is worth watching.
Claire Robinson and Glamour Boy are the only combination without a prior US Equestrian Open freestyle start, but a personal best of 71.090% suggests they're capable of knocking any number of these riders down a placing or two.
<h2 dir="ltr">Series Standings</h2>
Jackson currently sits 19th with 23 points and Schwartsman 27th with 16; a strong result this weekend moves both meaningfully toward the top-18 qualifying band. For Seidel and Harrison-Antell, who have one qualifier start each, this week alone won't change the picture much either way.

Kent Farrington and Greya won the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Final in Fort Worth. He is the first US World Cup champion since Beezie Madden in Paris in 2018. He led from day one, sharing the workload between Toulayna and Greya across the three days before closing out Sunday's double round to seal it.
Katie Dinan and Out of the Blue SCF climbed to third when Steve Guerdat picked up rails on the final day, giving the US two of the top three places on the podium.

For three years, <a href="https://www.usequestrianopen.org/stories/for-the-first-time-in-three-years-twin-rivers-has-a-new-story-to-tell" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twin Rivers belonged to James Alliston.</a> Back-to-back wins at the California venue had made him the name synonymous with this 4* class. Without an entry in the four-star short this weekend, someone new was always going to write their name into its history and it was Karen O'Neal and Clooney 14 who did it.
O'Neal led from start to finish. A dressage score of 29.2 &mdash; the pair's second-best test at the four-star level, behind only their 28.0 at Aspen Farms last year &mdash; put them ahead and a clear show jumping and cross-country round kept them there. It was Clooney 14's third CCI4* win, following victories of Aspen Farms 4*S and Galway Downs 4*L and a timely one for the Washington-based pair. Next up for the combination is a CCI5* debut at Kentucky.

At the top, Caroline Pamukcu leads on 145, Lucienne Bellissimo sits second on 140, and Waylon Roberts is third on 110.

This weekend brings an east coast double-header with Ocala and Fair Hill running simultaneously. Fair Hill sports big names such as Caroline Pamucku, Boyd Martin, and Sharon White, while Ocala's four-star short field is the largest the event has ever seen, with 23 starters expected to line up if all entries go to post, surpassing the previous high of 21 in 2024.&nbsp;

Christian Simonson and Indian Rock finished second at the FEI World Cup Finals in Fort Worth with 83.810% - a personal best for the combination, a record for the horse, and the first time an American has stood on a World Cup podium since 2019.&nbsp;
The previous best score the pair had posted together was 81.445% at Wellington earlier this season. Indian Rock's all-time record &mdash; set at 's-Hertogenbosch in 2024 with Emmelie Scholtens &mdash; was 82.095%. He was the youngest rider in the field and still qualifies for Under 25. This was also his first senior championship. If he and Indian Rock show up at the November Final for their second attempt at a big title, good luck beating them.

Becky Moody and Jagerbomb won the class with an astounding 88.330%, one of the highest freestyle scores posted on American soil in recent years. Scores at that level show up in Olympic medal rounds. Moody is not an Open Series rider, but she is one to watch as she builds toward Los Angeles 2028.
Three other Open Series riders made the trip to Fort Worth. Julio Mendoza Loor and Jewel&rsquo;s Goldstrike finished sixth at 78.645%. He sits 27th on the Open leaderboard, but that placing is a function of having competed in only one qualifier this season, not of what he's capable of producing. Kevin Kohmann, currently 16th in the Series, finished ninth at 76.730%. Benjamin Ebeling, the reigning US Equestrian Open Champion, finished tenth at 74.965%.

The Open Weekly: World Cup glory for Farrington and a historic podium for Simonson

In November, Benjamin Ebeling and Bellena closed out the dressage season with a career-best 79.930% freestyle to become the inaugural US Equestrian Open champions. Just two weeks ago, Kent Farrington delivered a statement win in Wellington, taking the $1M Rolex US Equestrian Open Grand Prix to become the first winner of the 2026 series.
This weekend, both champions arrive at the World Cup Final in Fort Worth, Texas with the chance at another huge title in their respective disciplines.

Across his two horses &mdash;&nbsp;Greya and Toulayna &mdash; Kent Farrington carries a 22% win chance, the highest in the field by a distance. In a sport where 10% is considered strong, 22% with the two entries is a statement.

The format sees the competition spread across Thursday, Friday and Sunday and rewards tactical thinking. Being able to campaign two horses across three days is a weapon in the right hands, and Day 1 (Thursday) matters more than people expect. Day 1 matters more than you think - the last seven World Cup Final winners all led after the opening day.
One storyline sharpens all of this: Farrington has never won the World Cup Final. Wellington was his. Is Fort Worth next?
A horse that could stop him? Gangster Montdesir - ten years old, six starts at CSI5* 1.60m, six clears. The only horse in the entries with a perfect record at this level. Richard Vogel rode him faster than Greya in the Wellington jump-off before a single rail at the final fence handed Farrington the title. He will not need reminding. The rivalry from Wellington is not finished.

From their freestyle debut in April through to the inaugural final in November, they broke their personal best four times in a row. That final score &mdash; 79.930% &mdash; is still their peak. This combination consistently&nbsp;raise their game when the occasion demands it.

Fort Worth is a step up from anything they have faced together. Three combinations in this field average above 80% in the Grand Prix Freestyle including early 2026 Series leader Christian Simonson with Indian Rock. Bellena's average of 75.779% puts her in the chasing pack. But the Open final showed what she can produce when it counts, and Ebeling &mdash; who competed at the Riyadh final in 2024 &mdash; already has World Cup Final experience.&nbsp;
The Grand Prix is tonight. The freestyle is Saturday - the format the US Equestrian Open is built around. If you want to watch your champions on the world stage, Saturday night is the moment.

Lucienne Bellissimo &amp; Dyri led the Stable View qualifier from start to finish. A 27.7 dressage score put them ahead on day one, and they never needed to look over their shoulder. They added no penalties across both the jumping phases to become only the fourth combination ever to finish on their dressage (FOD) in the CCI4*-S at Stable View across nearly 400 starters, and the first to do so in the 2026 US Equestrian Open Series.&nbsp;

Roberts &amp; Fernhill Salt Lake are known for their speed - having also been inside the time at TerraNova in November, the only inside-the-time round of the entire 2026 Series until this weekend.&nbsp;

Stable View had been circled as a chance for<a href="https://www.usequestrianopen.org/stories/qualifier-7-one-of-last-years-pivotal-venues-sees-series-leaders-and-2025-winners-go-head-to-head" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Caroline Pamukcu and Boyd Martin to pull clear at the top.</a> Neither left with points. Boyd withdrew both Commando 3 and Cooley Nutcracker before cross-country following a fall in the CCI3*-S. Pamukcu's HSH Double Sixteen was eliminated in the show jumping and HSH Connor had a cross-country refusal.&nbsp;
Bellissimo would have won regardless. her performance never required their misfortune. But a weekend that was supposed to consolidate the top of the leaderboard instead blew it wide open. Pamukcu leads on 145. Bellissimo sits only five points back while Roberts climbs to third. The gap at the top has gone from 50 points to five in a single weekend.

Devon Kane &amp; Vamos claimed Friday&rsquo;s freestyle at TerraNova with a personal best of 75.465%. The performance, which saw Kane top four of five judges&mdash;including two marks over 77%&mdash;was enough to edge out <a href="https://www.usequestrianopen.org/stories/qualifier-7-one-of-last-years-pivotal-venues-sees-series-leaders-and-2025-winners-go-head-to-head">the field favorite</a> in a tight contest. The victory moves Kane from 15th into third place on the overall leaderboard with 46 points.

Camille Carier Bergeron &amp; Finnlanderin followed in second with 75.385%. While Carier Bergeron entered the week as the class favorite, the narrow margin reflected the four-month gap since her last freestyle outing. Claire Darnell &amp; Harrold S rounded out the podium in third with 74.365%. Although the result continues Darnell&rsquo;s upward scoring trajectory, it fell just short of the second-place finish she needed to overtake Germany&rsquo;s Frederic Wandres for the overall Series lead. Darnell now sits second in the standings with 47 points.

The champagne spray from the Rolex US Equestrian Open Grand Prix has barely dried on Kent Farrington's jacket and the World Cup Final is already calling.
Before a sold-out crowd of more than 10,000 fans, <a href="https://www.usequestrianopen.org/stories/a-record-field-a-home-win-a-us-champion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kent Farrington &amp; Greya claimed the $1M Rolex US Equestrian Open Grand Prix</a> to become the first US winner of the Rolex Finale in seven years. Now just over a week later, the spotlight moves to Fort Worth for the FEI Jumping World Cup Finals.
The headline act is the same man who just lit up Wellington. Farrington arrives in Texas as the undisputed form rider of the season. With the two highest-rated horses in the field in Greya and Toulyana, this is essentially his to lose. And here is one storyline that sharpens it further: Farrington has never won the World Cup Final.

At the Rolex Final, Germany's&nbsp;Richard Vogel put down a faster timer than Farrington in the jump-off but a single mistake on the final fence resulted in 4 faults.&nbsp;He will not need reminding.

The Open Weekly: FODs and personal bests for weekend winners Lucienne Bellissimo and Devon Kane

Claire Darnell could leave TerraNova as the Series leader, and it&rsquo;s not a long shot. She doesn't even need to win. A second-place finish puts her at 50 points, which is enough to bump her past current leader, Frederic Wandres of Germany. She has three qualifiers completed and one to go, which means a strong result here fills out her scoring slots and puts her safely within the top 18 qualifying line for the Final.
Darnell and Harrold S have seven FEI freestyle starts together, averaging 73.229% with a personal best of 77.015%. This season may have started slow with a 70.560%, but they quickly followed it up with a 73.450% and 74.315% in subsequent outings. They&rsquo;ve yet to touch that 77% PB, but the trajectory is pointed in the right direction, and in a six-horse field, a podium is all but expected.
<h2 dir="ltr">The Two Riders Who Won't Make It Easy</h2>

Devon Kane and Vamos arrive with a PB of 75.305 and a 12-start average of 72.35% &mdash; both trailing Darnell's marks, but close enough that a strong Kane performance and a routine Darnell performance produce the same result. Kane's recent form has been variable: 74.235% in February, then 71.900% and 72.120% in her two March starts. She has 26 points on the leaderboard with one qualifier remaining, and even a last-place finish this weekend adds seven points and moves her into the top ten. A podium finish does considerably more. She's currently 15th, and a top-three result this weekend puts her into the top five. Kane has every reason to ride for a placing this weekend, not just a score.&nbsp;
Camille Carier Bergeron and Finnlanderin are the class favorite with an average of 73.485%, and a personal best of 77.280% set at Devon in September 2024. Her average and PB are the highest in the field, albeit only marginally above Darnell&rsquo;s. Perhaps the largest caveat to Carier Bergeron&rsquo;s first place prediction this week is timing. Her last freestyle start was in November 2025. A strong 75.275% showing, but more than four months ago. That's not automatically a problem, but it's the kind of thing that could manifest in a lower showing in a first outing back. If she's sharp, she wins this class. If there's any rust, Darnell is positioned to make her pay for it.

A New Series Leader Could Emerge at TerraNova

<h2 dir="ltr">Jumping: Greya &amp; Kent Farrington top the strongest WEF Grand Prix field on record to become the 2026 US Equestrian Open Champions</h2>
It looked set to happen and it did - this weekend&rsquo;s $1,000,000 Rolex US Equestrian Open Grand Prix attracted the strongest field of horses we&rsquo;ve seen at a WEF Grand Prix.&nbsp;

With such a strong group of horses from around the world packed into a 40-horse field, it&rsquo;s no wonder the pre-show predictions were tightly packed; three combinations entered as joint-favorites to win:

Double-defending Champions,&nbsp;Checker 47 &amp; Christian Kukuk, entered on a 6% chance of victory which ranked among the top 10 win chances. When they crashed through a wall on a night of drama which saw only 5 proceed to the jump-off, it felt like a magic night for the US might be on.&nbsp;

Magic it was as home favorites Greya &amp; Kent took glory. They and Enjeu de Grisien with Ben Maher (GBR) were sitting 1-2 as the only combinations to jump clear in the jump-off. Greya had gone 0.73 seconds faster than the British combination, but there was one more pair to go: Gangster Montdesir &amp; Richard Vogel (GER). Gangster &amp; Richie were the fastest of all&hellip;but added a stride at the final fence and had a rail. So Greya &amp; Kent brought the victory home to the US for the first time since&nbsp;HH Azur &amp; McLain Ward won the class in 2019.

Leading up to last year&rsquo;s Open Final,&nbsp;Greya &amp; Kent entered as strong favorites (12% win chance). Earlier in the 2025 WEF season, Greya had become the first horse on record to win two 5* Grand Prix classes in a single WEF season. But on the big night last year, a first-round rail knocked them out of contention. So this year&rsquo;s victory, among a record-breakingly strong field, with a formidable reputation preceding them, and with disappointment behind and pressure ahead, Greya &amp; Kent&rsquo;s win was perfect redemption.&nbsp;

Saturday's victory marked Greya's 10th CSI5* Grand Prix win. Farrington has described her as a once-in-a-career horse, and he didn't shy away from it after the win:
"You do this for a long time, and you have some good horses, maybe some great horses, and then you have horses that are an outlier athlete like I believe Greya is. She can do everything. She's fast, she's careful, she's scopey, and she's rideable."

<h2>Dressage: Wandres &amp; Verrenberg lead at halfway, but with nine qualifiers to go, the chase pack is closing in</h2>
Sixteen qualifiers down, nine to go. Frederic Wandres and Verrenberg lead the Series at 49 points, with three of their four qualifying slots used. They&rsquo;ve built a strong lead on the back of three consecutive freestyle improvements during their AGDF run this year.&nbsp;
With Wandres heading back to Europe, that lead is unlikely to hold. Caroline Darcourt, who sits tied for fourth at 40 points with all four of her qualifying slots filled, is also headed back to Europe for the summer season. For both riders, the second half of the Series plays out without them. They'll need the points they've already banked to hold their positions as US-based riders keep accumulating. Given that the top 18 qualify for the $200,000 CDI5* Final in November, anyone currently in the top five is in a reasonable position - but reasonable isn't guaranteed, and nine qualifiers is a lot of ground for the riders behind them to cover.

Ge&ntilde;ay Vaughn is the clearest immediate threat to the standings. She sits second at 45 points with one qualifier slot remaining, and she's one of the west coast riders who still has accessible events in the back half. A win in her next outing - the kind of result she's been delivering - puts her past Wandres. Christian Simonson sits tied with Darcourt at 40 points but has used only two of his four slots. Ashley Holzer, fourth overall at 44 with four out of four qualifiers, has been on an ascending trajectory too - consecutive personal bests with Hawtins San Floriana - and is well-positioned to make the second half count.

<h2>Eventing: West Coast represents &amp; Colleen Loach wins on her first ever Open appearance</h2>
This weekend's eventing double-header saw a West Coast Qualifier at Galway Downs and an East Coast Qualifier at TerraNova.&nbsp;
At Galway Downs, Tommy Greengard entered as the favorite to take 1st and 2nd place and earn 75 Series points. That is in fact what happened, but not exactly.
Tommy was favored to win on That&rsquo;s Me Z, the horse who entered the weekend with three 4*-S podiums, including 2nd place at Galway Downs last year. But it was a repeat result for That&rsquo;s Me Z who was Tommy&rsquo;s second-place finisher after activating a pin on XC day. That&rsquo;s Me Z would otherwise have won after a 30.1 dressage score, adding just 0.4 time penalties in the showjumping, and producing the fastest XC round with just 4.0 time penalties.

Instead, Tommy won with Balladeer Kilbrickens Lad. The four-star debutant added nothing but 9.2 XC time penalties to his 34.0 dressage score. A very steady three-phase performance, particularly for his first time at the level.
Last season, Tommy didn&rsquo;t reach 75 points until June (Aspen Farms) and he still finished in the Series top 10 with a final total of 105 points. This weekend, Tommy earned 75 points right off the bat, in his first Open Qualifier of the new season. With a top 10 finish at Kentucky 4*-S, where he had two entries last year, and repeat consistency across the remaining West Coast qualifiers, Tommy could be in a strong position to one-up his inaugural standing.

On the East Coast, after a year away from international competition, FE Golden Eye returned this season with a 2 for 2 winning record, taking the Bouckaert 3*-S win and now TerraNova 4*-S victory. Both times adding nothing but a few XC time penalties to his dressage score.

The 50-point result is Colleen Loach&rsquo;s first time on Open leaderboard as she didn&rsquo;t contest any of last year&rsquo;s Qualifiers. And for a very first Open result, it couldn&rsquo;t have gone any better for the Canadian. Firstly, it was a field of 26 entries, meaning there were more points up for grabs. The US Equestrian Open was born from a strategic&nbsp;Board of Directors decision in 2023 to build a permanent legacy for US&nbsp;Equestrian sport.&nbsp;Its mission is to grow and foster a deeper connection to equestrianism by delivering a premier, unified championship series in the Olympic disciplines.&nbsp; With top-level competition, storytelling, and a dynamic, entertaining experience, the&nbsp;vision is to transform disparate events into a cohesive, narrative-driven season.&nbsp;The series is anchored by&nbsp;core values which include fan-first accessibility, competitive integrity, storytelling, and a dynamic&nbsp;entertaining experience onsite&nbsp;.
The&nbsp;US Equestrian Open&nbsp;spans the three Olympic disciplines&mdash;Jumping, Eventing, and Dressage&mdash;with USEF contributing $200,000 in prize money to each final to ensure high-stakes competitive integrity. The Jumping Final took place at Wellington International from&nbsp;March 24&ndash;29, 2026. Next stop will be&nbsp; the Eventing Final at Morven Park from&nbsp;October 8&ndash;11, 2026.&nbsp;The season concludes with the Dressage Final at the Desert International Horse Park from&nbsp;November 11&ndash;15, 2026.
